We needed to stock up the fridge with food. Our team would purchase fruits and vegetables from local sources who are willing to deliver them to us. There is only a limited amount of products we can buy, and it won’t last long if we order more than what we can store in the refrigerator. It was a balancing act for the first few months as our team determined how much inventory we would need. The most important thing to remember when it comes to food is that wasted food is wasted profit.
Once our inventory has been sorted, it needs the right equipment. Equipment shopping is important because pieces of equipment contribute to the quality of the smoothie we sell. No worries if we are on a tight budget; a lot of quality pieces of equipment go on sale or are sold at a low price. We should include items we might need, such as ice machines, blenders, coolers, refrigerators, prep tools, knives, cutting boards, sinks, storage shelves, containers, to-go cups, straws, napkins, utensils, and don’t forget the cash register as well!
We need to sell our brand to start the smoothie business properly. To get things off to a good start, we need to promote our grand opening to the movers and shakers in the community. Customer retention will be a key component of our business if we maintain brand recognition over time.
From creating and maintaining a website to creating and maintaining a social media account like Instagram, it is important to ensure that all aspects of digital marketing are handled, including Google search engine optimization and social media marketing. We always ensure that when we create our logo, it can be used digitally and on merchandise. Our marketing must showcase what is unique about our services to attract more customers and make more money.
It was best that we researched which licenses and permits our start-up needs before opening. There are various types of business licenses, such as general business licenses, building and zoning permits, sales and tax numbers, and employer identification numbers that might be required. To avoid complications in the future, we made sure that we completed all the necessary paperwork as soon as possible.
Mixing our personal and business accounts would put our personal assets at risk. Additionally, building business credit can help us get better rates, higher lines of credit, and better credit cards in our business’s name. Opening a business bank account helped our team protect our personal assets by separating them from our company’s assets when applying for business loans. And it will simplify tax filing.
The government requires us to have workers’ compensation, unemployment, and disability insurance coverage for all our employees. In some cases, additional insurance coverage may be required by the state, depending on the laws in that state.
We have taken care of the documents, so we moved on to the fun part, choosing a location for your smoothie business. Whether we lease or build, this would be our biggest monthly expense. We chose our location first. Some smoothie businesses rent or share space with gyms, spas, or wellness businesses. Our smoothie business will be right where our target audience is. Choosing shopping malls or strip centers with high visibility is another option. Search the area carefully to avoid too close competition. We made sure there was plenty of parking. We considered the space needed for a drive-through if our team decided to plan one.
Once we decided where our smoothie business would be, we had to decide how it would look. Design is everything. In addition to being functional, it needs to appeal to customers. Pleasant colours and furnishings add life to the space. Food services need efficient kitchens. Plumbing, electricity, and sanitation codes need to be followed.
